A two-day practical leather course, designed to give you a greater understanding of making products from leather using traditional hand craft techniques with vegetable tanned leather.
Day one | 11:00am - 18:00pm On day one we will be focusing on developing a bag template, we will take you through each step of designing a bag base on the bag styles listed below but with your design input to make it your own. ending our first day with making a card wallet, coin purse or Belt to prepare you for sewing your bag on the second day.
Day Two | 11:00am - 18:00pm On day two we will be using our bag template to construct the bag design we drafted on day one, constructing using only traditional leather craft techniques.
Bag style: -Tote bag -Messenger bag -Saddle Bag
A set of tools is provided along with a range of leathers, metal fittings and other materials needed. Patterns and workshop notes are provided for this specialist workshop, as well as a suppliers’ list for those wishing to continue to develop their range after the workshop.
With a maximum of 3 students per course, everyone receives attentive tuition.
The workshop aims to covers -Understanding the basic pattern making steps -Becoming competent at using many of the leather worker’s hand tools. -Learning how to saddle stitch with the aid of a saddler’s clam. -Understanding the process of preparing the leather for hand stitching. -Gaining a thorough understanding of the qualities and sections of the leather. -Mastering the technique of preparing a thread. -Learning to work from a paper pattern onto leather. -Maintenance and care of leather. -Developing a professional edge finishing technique. -Fitting and securing metal hardware. -Maintenance of saddlery tools.

What's included in the price?
The workshop fees cover leather and basic materials. You are welcome to bring your own materials if you wish, but please consult with me prior to ensure that we have the right equipment for the task. Saddlery tools are provided for students to use.
